Cassie was a shelter find--the cutest, sweetest
thing you could ever imagine.
There are a lot of things we don't know about
Cassie (like her parentage). We do know she was
born sometime in towards the end of 2006 in
Kentucky and was immediately abandoned with
her litter (within hours, so she's never known
a dog mom). She was then found, and eventually
made her way to a shelter in New England.
Somewhere in there she seems to have had
some traumatic experiences (she has some
potential evidence of previously broken bones),
and she's very fearful of many things, but she's
also come a long way in her two short years.

She used to be afraid of doors, but we've worked that one out. She was afraid of water (ask the kennel
staff about that one!), but she's worked that one out too, and now will even swim a bit. She remains
very afraid of people she doesn't know (especially those with hats, beards and/or sunglasses) so if
you meet her in the lobby, she may bark to tell you not to come near her because she's afraid of you,
but she wouldn't harm a fly. She's also still afraid of being alone (thus the kennel), riding in the car
(no choice if one wants to go to the kennel and she does!), wheels, air brakes, metal things that go
bang, and generally anything she isn't familiar with. The kennel is a godsend for her because it
broadens her experiences in addition to giving her lots of outlets for her limitless energy (and I mean
limitless) which, if not tired, goes into being nervous. Oh how she loves going to "puppy school!"
Despite her flaws, she is the sweetest pal ever and she's my favorite goofy girl. She loves nothing
more than snuggling on "mom's" lap in the recliner chair (she forgets she's 60 pounds, since mom
lets her be a lap dog), chasing her cats around the house (fortunately her cats like to run around too,
and can stop her when they wish, since mom can't), and even better, going outside to play with her
frisbee, and take mom for mammoth walks (sometimes most of the day, for many miles). There are
also several neighbor friends (especially "Uncle" Jim and "Aunt" Mary) who, along with the kennel
staff, elicit so much exuberance in her that she explodes in excitement.
So, despite her silliness, mom loves her deeply, and she's a keeper!
Getting Cass to sit still long enough to get a picture is no small feat, but it happens occasionally,
and if you're ready.....
