Bacon

Hello! My name is Bacon, but my official name is “Everyone Loves Bacon”. I am a 18 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback. I was born on August 15, 2008 and I was one of fourteen puppies. Actually, one of my brothers, Boone, is a regular at Nauset Kennels too (and his Mom, Leslee is a groomer there). I am a local…I was born in Forestdale but now I live in Chatham.

I visit Nauset Kennels fairly regularly. Sometimes I go for just day care, and sometimes I spend a few nights. Either way, I have so much fun playing with my friends at Nauset Kennels. All the staff takes good care of me, and I get all my energy out. When I get home to Mom and Dad I am completely exhausted!

Although I am really tall and big and have a “mohawk”, I am just a big cuddler. My favorite place in the world is snuggling on the couch with my parents. They still won’t let me sleep on the bed with them though…I wonder why?

I share my house with two cats, which I have learned not to hunt or chase. My breed, the Rhodesian Ridgeback, originated in Africa and was bred to hunt lions. The term “keep a lion at bay” actually comes from us Ridgebacks. We are known for our distinctive ridge or “mohawk” that runs down the length of our back. It forms from the hair growing in the opposite direction and is always this way. No…my Mom and Dad don’t cut or style my hair this way!

I love to play with other dogs at the dog park, Thompson’s Fields in Harwich, and at Harding’s Beach in Chatham, and, of course, at Nauset Kennels. I have had lots of favorite toys, but my favorite thing ever is the small tags on each toy. For some reason I become fixated on these tags and always rip them off with my teeth. I love food, especially peanut butter, carrots and apples, which is all the people food my parents let me eat. One of my favorite treats is the end of a peanut butter jar…yummy!

I want to thank Nauset Kennels for honoring me with the Tail of the Month! I have so much fun there and they take really good care of me. I am still so young and cannot wait to grow up with my friends at Nauset Kennels!
